This blog post is based on another blog post outlining the 20 essential technology terms for teachers to know. Check out the following link to make sure you are in "the know." http://www.fractuslearning.com/2013/03/04/technology-terms-for-teachers/
Two terms that are gaining popularity in educational circles are Content Management Systems (CMS) and Learning Management Systems (LMS). CMS is a web-based software that allows you to write, edit, publish, and collaborate. Some of the more popular CMS sites are WordPress and Blogspot. LMS sites are platforms for teachers to create, organize, deliver, and manage educational content for students. Think of it as a virtual classroom with all the necessities like video lessons, quizzes, discussion forums, drop boxes, and assignment submission options. Two of the more popular LMS platforms are Edmodo and Schoology.
I can't end this post without mentioning the trend in asynchronous learning. Technology makes it easy for students to learn what they need to know, when they need to know it, and where it is best accessible for them. This 23 Things Blog is an example of asynchronous learning because students can LOGON at their convenience, at their pace, and in the order that works best for them.
